Protesting an immigration ban ordered by President Donald Trump, signs at SFO announce "We Want You Here" and "Give Us Your Huddled Masses."

Demonstrators gathered at the airport this afternoon as similar actions broke out at Chicago O'Hare, Washington Dulles, and John F. Kennedy airports.

American protesters were responding to an executive order imposing a federal ban on US entry from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen for 90 days. Trump's order also bars refugees from US entry for 120 days and bans Syrian refugees indefinitely.

Trump's orders quickly resulted in the detention of immigrants at US international airports. At JFK, two refugees from Iraq were being held, and according to the Chronicle, reports of travelers being detained at SFO helped spur local demonstrations.

There was at least initial confusion over the number of detainees. "We have lawyers currently at SFO" Lara Kiswani of the Arab Resource and Organizing Center told KRON4. “What we’re not clear about is who or what type of families are being held... whether they’re from Syria or Iran or other countries, we don’t know for certain,”

Palo Alto-based attorney Susie Hwang told the news station "several families" were waiting at the airpot to hear whether family members and loved ones would be forced to return to their countries of origin. One woman from Iran who received asylum in the US six years ago waits on news of her 30-year-old son, who arrived at SFO this morning.

Hwang clarified to the San Jose Mercury News that there were three Iranian immigrants in total, the 30-year-old man and an elderly couple, who were detained after their flights.

California Lieutenant Governor and former SF Mayor Gavin Newsom attended the protest, as did State Senator and former SF Supervisor Scott Wiener, and Bay Area writers Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman.

As some technology CEOs have responded to Trump's executive order with outrage and others with degrees of passivity, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, a Russian immigrant, was at the SFO protest in a "personal capacity."

Later in the evening, SFO protesters cheered news that Federal Judge Ann M.Donnelly had ordered an emergency stay against the implementation of Trump's executive order following lawsuits filed by the ACLU and other legal organizations.

As protesters held tight and hunkered down, staging a sit-in, ACLU officials told Chronicle reporter Vivian Ho that two detainees were released to their families.

ACLU lawyers were applauded as they were permitted to speak with SFO detainees and their families.

The family of one detainee announced he had been jailed according to several sources on Twitter.

Deborah Perez, the sanity-estranged woman who claimed that she was the Zodiac Killer's daughter on Wednesday has another outrageous claim regarding her DNA makeup: she also alleged to be the illegitimate, biological daughter of John F. Kennedy.

Sigh.

True crime writer and investigative journalist M. William Phelps, who worked with her briefly to look into her claims before realizing she was batshit nuts, had this to say.

I was extremely interested Debbie's story, for obvious reasons. It sounded good. Seemed to add up. I had a handwriting expert friend of mine working on samples she sent me (he has since died). I was going through all of the paperwork she had sent me. I checked her out as much as I could and she seemed to have a good standing. Then she called one day and told me she was JFK's illegitimate child and was with Robert and Rose Kennedy the day before Robert was murdered. And that's when I stopped talking to her. I felt duped at that point. The chances of her being the Zodiac's daughter are a million to one--the chances of her being both JFK's daughter and the Zodiac's daughter are a gazillion to none. I feel sorry for Debbie. I really do. That's why I never went public with her story. I just simply moved on. I get calls like that a few times a year from people claiming to be all sorts of things. I hardly take th[e]m as far or as serious as I did with Debbie

This woman is just not well. Neither are the attorneys and "investigators," namely disbarred lawyer Kevin McLean, who worked years cracking the bogus case.

Gavin Newsom began his second term as mayor of San Francisco this morning in front of a huge crowd under the largest dome in the western hemisphere. (Yes, even larger than those found in Sacramento and Washington, D.C., but why would we bring those places up?)

Fashion report. Vivid purple necktie ( matching glove[s]). Fiancée Jennifer Siebel appeared in yellow looking just like a Hitchcockian blond. Shoe bonus: undersides completely lacquered in International Red-Orange, redolent of the Golden Gate Bridge. How apropropriate for San Francisco.

When a politician's crew puts on a show (you know, swearing-in ceremonies are pretty much legally-mandated photo ops), things can go well, or not so well. This inaugural went well. And speaking of Obama, his much talked about Kennedyesqueness is more Robert, less John. Today's event was heavily on the on JFK side of things.

This morning, SFO crews found a dead body lodged in the wheel well of the nose of a United plane coming in from Shanghai. It might have been a stowaway.

A woman was arraigned in Denver yesterday, after getting arrested on Monday for beating her kids on a Frontier Air flight that took off from SFO. Witnesses report that she seemed intoxicated on the flight, was yelling and hitting the kids, and then threw a drink at a flight attendant and then followed the attendant into the aisle while yelling and pointing. This lady's got our vote for the SF Board of Supes!

And we've got a new airline flying in! Starting today, you can start buying tickets on Virgin Air from SFO to LAX (starting at $44) or JFK (starting at $139). Flights to Dulles and Vegas are forthcoming.

On Friday, the U.S. Department of Transportation dotted the eyes and crossed the tees for Sir Richard Branson's airline, Virgin America, to begin flying out of SFO, which will actually be its home base. Huzzah, more local jobs! The company is planning a mid-summer launch.

The airline is billing itself as a "a new low fare U.S. airline," though the proof will be in the pudding; it seems to us that airline competition is more or less stagnant; everyone has low-cost flights available if you're willing to be flexible (at least for the flights we've taken in the past year or two).

The first flights will be between SFO and New York (JFK); eventually expanding service to LAX, Washington/Dulles, San Diego and Las Vegas by the end of its first year of operations.

Hey -- maybe we'll see some hot air balloon action soon in the states!

Yes, it's another Bay to Breakers. Pretty good weather and a good time for all. But, first of all kids, they've been lying to you all these years. Is the highest point of this race the top of Hayes Street Hill at altitutde of 215 feet? That's way off. But no biggee. It's not like an MSM fact checker could find the correct answer in under 30 seconds via Google Earth. Is it? The HSH certainly "feels" like the highest point - we'll agree with that as we're still tired from last year. [Well, if you all are asking, the answer is JFK Drive betwixt Stow Lake and Prayerbook Cross in Golden Gate Park - that is the summit. After that, it's downhill to the Pacific. Those of you who want to watch DirecTV on your flights to the East Coast but who can't bear the trip to either the Oakland or San Jose airports are in luck! Fancy-pants low-cost airline JetBlue launches its much-anticipated SFO service today! Man, we love watching Bravo "Showbiz Moms and Dads" marathons when we're flying across the country.

The service starts off with four nonstop flights to New York's JFK airport, and one to Boston (one-ways starting at $164 for both cities) -- and starting July 27, we'll get direct service to Salt Lake City next (one-way $ 89). (Is there an underserved SFO-Utah market out there? Probably so!)

Let's hope JetBlue's ready for SFO -- their experience with those 11-hour delays back in February should be a good warmup for those mysterious "low cloud cover" days that plague the on-time statistics on the SFO runways.

John Kerry! The former presidential candidate was in town the other day -- and how things have changed. Before, he was greeted by Bruce Springsteen, roaring crowds representing about 48% of the voting majority, and people carrying flip-flops. Now, he appears to be hawking products for a company called Blancpain (they sell watches). (Why? He doesn't need the money!)

Well, we don't care! He ran against Bush and that's enough for us. We still love you, JFK!

Of course, the big question is what will Gavin do (WWGD). Yesterday, a press flak for the Mayor said: "Our position remains unchanged...we’re using the data as a starting point to find alternative solutions." Something we think means "wait to see how much hell Gavin will get if he agrees to close the street." Now that he's sober, it's that much harder to feign interest when Dee Dee Wilsey runs into him at the next blueblood function. And speaking of Dee Dee, wouldn't it be awesome if she married somebody with the last name Ramone so she could be Dee Dee Ramone?

Opponents are saying "study schmudy" and claim that the study was too small of a sample to really say one way or the other. They also, apparently, stuck their hands over their ears and repeatedly said "we can't hear you." Also lining up against it are advocates for the disabled who don't like the fact that the museums will now be "inaccessible" for two days instead of one.

The main problem with JetBlue, though, is that they don't go to a lot of airports. Here, you could get them at Oakland but not at SFO. But not for any longer-- JetBlue will now be serving SFO. And we are stoked.

Starting May 3rd, Jet Blue will offer direct flights to JFK and Logan Airport at Boston. Tickets will start at $99 one-way but will eventually go up to around $159 to $399 later on. Flights to other airports will be added on later.

SFO has been trying to get JetBlue for years, especially in light of Southwestern pulling up stakes and going to Oakland. Other airlines fly to the East Coast from SFO, but this is the only discount airline. As for Oakland, JetBlue is planning on lowering the number of flights out the airport, but will still have flights running out of the airport.

Not everyone is excited, however. A few years back, Beyond Chron argued that "socially conscious" consumers shouldn't fly the Blue because it's non-Union and outsources stuff elsewhere. The term, in fact they use, is the "Walmartization" of the airline industry. To which we say, what part of leather seats and DirectTV do they not understand?

Like a lot of you, we stumbled into the election booth last Tuesday and discovered much to our surprise that we had to vote for Nancy Pelosi. Did we know that? Does she actually ever campaign here? We can't really recall ever seeing any ads or posters or even bumper stickers promoting Pelosi, like, ever. Is there anyone out there who could challenge her?

Last week, the Green candidate for Congress, Krissy Keefer kicked her campaign into full gear after receiving the official vote in the Green Party primary. She did it the traditional way-- a speech and rally followed by lots of hand shaking and baby kissing. Eh, just joking. She baked a bunch of cookies ("Cookies for Congress!"), hopped in an RV with some friends, and drove around the city with her "Art Army" to bang taiko drums at various places. You can check out the Flickr account for more action packed photos. Didn't JFK start his congressional career in an RV full of taiko drum banging women? No wait, maybe we shouldn't have used JFK, women, and banging in the same sentence. Sorry.

And yes, we realize this story happened last week, but we were in Tahoe and, well, we just couldn't let the story slip pass. We mean, what if Keefer does put up a challenge to Pelosi and Pelosi has to respond by putting together her own "Art Army" to bang even bigger drums?

Keefer is an artist/activist who once sued the San Francisco Ballet School over size discrimination when they refused to let her daughter take classes because she was too big, thus officially cornering the Fat Ballet Dancer vote (side note-- we once tried to sue a soccer school for discriminating against us for not being very good, but the case was thrown out). She was also the source of a little internal Green conflict in that there were charges that the Greens were about to shunt her aside the moment Matt Gonzalez announced his intention to run for congress. Which he has yet to do and for which he keeps on denying that he will do.

We here at SFist can only hope Ms. Keefer stays in the race if only for the copy she is sure to bring.
