According to today's press conference, the Zodiac Killer was some guy named Guy Ward Hendrickson. Whatever. But here's where it gets good: Hendrickson allegedly took his daughter, Deborah Perez, along with him for the murders.
Perez spoke at today's press conference. Here are just a few of her wild claims.
- During the shooting deaths, he told her the gun shots were firecrackers.

She stamped the envelopes containing the cryptic letters sent out to local media.

She embroidered the mask he wore while committing his notorious acts.

During a routine police stop, he stuck his gun in the back of her pants. This happened just after the 4th of July killings.

She also said he killed between 30 and 40 people.

He lived in Orange County. Of course.

He apologized on his deathbed.

The murders seemed to be a "special activity" between her and her dad.
Allegedly.
But here's the rub, Perez says she wrote some of the letters herself and that she saw a composite on America's Most Wanted in 2007 of her father as the Zodiac Killer, and began to remember it all. So, you know, she may be delusional in addition to being sanity-estranged. (However, according to attorney Kevin McLean, the man who lead this most recent investigation, "Everyone is going to say she is crazy, but we had psychologists examine Ms. Perez." Word is, though, that McLean isn't a beacon of mental clarity himself.)
For many years, people fingered Arthur Leigh Allen, a child molester from Vallejo who died in 1992, as the Zodiac Killer.

I don't think you can repress a year's worth of memories, but I'm no expert.
So let's see:
- no cooborating physical evidence
- no confirmation from the police that she confirmed any unreleased forensic details
- a spontaneously "recovered memory" over 20 years after the fact
- announced via a press conference with no involvement by the police or DA's office
- ...and she's claiming that the Zodiac killer brought an eight year old girl along to multiple murders.
I feel incredibly safe calling complete bullshit on all of this.
You know, most people would have seen the implied "this is why I believe she's delusional" in there. Congratulations on being special.

This whole story sounds like a red herring. I was around in the day and remember the terror he caused. Can't believe this Hendrickson character drove up to the SF Bay Area to commit these crimes. And taking a child along? Repressed memory???? Funny, but the woman and baby who were caught up with the Zodiac outside of Tracy, CA didn't see a child in his car; neither did the other two survivors. Count me among the ones who say "Bullshit." This Perez woman is one of many over the years who has claimed that the Zodiac was a relative. Her 15 minutes are up.

DUDE!! CHECK IT OUT! The "attorney" who "investigated" and "broke" this story, Kevin McLean, has been disbarred from practicing law because he stole over $100,000 from his client and committed acts of misrepresentation. The State Bar Court concluded that Mr. McLean "is not entitled to be recommended to the public as a person worthy of trust, and accordingly not entitled to continue to practice law."

Logically, that doesn't work because of all the witnesses who gave descriptions of the killer, none reported a little girl tagging along. And if she were there with him for the Zodiac killings, she would've been seen because she would've been close enough for him to tell her he was shooting off fireworks. And why wait two years after you have this revolutionary discovery to tell authorities?
