A man was killed and a woman severely injured when their car went off the road and crashed into a median Saturday morning, going southbound on Interstate 280 in SF near the Cesar Chavez Street exit.
A fatal car crash in San Francisco Saturday morning took the life of a male passenger, and left the woman driving the car with severe injuries. The Chronicle reports that the two were in a black Hyundai Ioniq traveling southbound on I-280 in San Francisco, and approaching the Cesar Chavez Street exit when their vehicle went off the road and crashed into a center median at around 7:10 am Saturday.
California Highway Patrol officers arrived on the scene and found it was just a single-car accident. But the man in the passenger's seat was declared dead on the scene at about 7:50 am, while the woman who was driving was hospitalized with “major injuries to her lower extremities,” according to the Chronicle.
"Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the collision but it is believed that unsafe speed was a factor in the crash," the Highway Patrol said in a statement to KTVU. Though the Highway Patrol also added that neither of the two were wearing seat belts when the car crashed.
The man who died was reportedly in his 30s and is believed to have been a resident of Santa Clara County. There is no information on the identity of the woman.
Though the man who died has also not yet been publicly identified, as authorities are still notifying his next of kin.
