A small rally covered a Lafayette highway overpass with Trump flags and a small handful of Trump supporters, with Saturday’s attempt on Trump’s life continuing to resonate across the Bay Area.

We have always known there is some degree of support for Donald Trump even in this liberal bastion of the Bay Area. And after Saturday’s shooting of Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, where a bullet grazed Trump’s ear and bloodied his face, those supporters came out for a pro-Trump mini-rally on Highway 24 overpass in Lafayette, as NBC Bay Area reports.

In fairness, the NBC Bay Area video in the segment above appears to show only three Trump supporters at the rally, and certainly many more flags than people. The Chronicle has the additional detail that “a man who was jogging began shouting obscenities” at the Trump supporters.

KPIX reports on some of those obscenities, saying that a man who was “covered in tattoos,” yelled that ralliers, “Fuck you! Get off this overpass, you racist fuck! Your kind is not allowed up here."

“The federal government needs to say we have to be tolerant of both political views and that’s what our country is about to express your political opinions without violence,” one of those supporters Al Norman told NBC Bay Area.

In case you missed it, video of the shooting attempt is seen above. Trump pauses in his speech when shots can be heard ringing out, and he is gang-tackled by his own secret service detail and whisked off-stage. Trickles of blood can be seen on his face, but by all accounts, he does not seem to be seriously injured.

The FBI’s Pittsburgh Field identified the shooter Sunday morning as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. KTVU has then nugget that Crooks is a registered Republican, but had recently made a $15 donation a a political action committee supporting Democrats.

“We can’t allow this violence to be normalized,” President Biden said in an Oval Office address Sunday. “Political rhetoric in this country has gotten very heated, it’s time to cool it down.”

This all comes as the Republican National Convention convention kicks off today in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Meanwhile, President Biden is still planning on doing that live interview with NBC’s Lester Holt at 6 pm PT Monday night.
