A shootout late Monday night/early Tuesday near 16th and Mission streets led to a four-car crash and left one individual dead.
The shootout between multiple individuals took place around 12:15 am Tuesday on Mission Street between 16th and 17th streets. As Mission Local reports, police responded to the scene at 12:17 am and found one person dead of a gunshot wound. Police Chief Bill Scott said that two other individuals were injured in the shootout, with at least one driving themselves to the hospital.
Chief Scott spoke about the shooting at a Police Commission meeting Wednesday, and it had not been previously reported on.
"Multiple spent bullet casings of a variety of calibers were located, indicating that there were multiple types of guns used," Scott said, per Mission Local.
Video from the scene posted on the Citizen app shows investigators with dozens of bullet casing markers on Mission Street.
It's unclear how many people were involved, but reportedly four cars crashed in the area due to the shootout. No suspects have been identified, and the victims were not named.
This marked San Francisco's 18th homicide of the year to date. At this time last year, the city had seen 28 homicides, according to department data.
