Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff will not move his company's Dreamforce mega-conference to Las Vegas or Austin or wherever, despite his own threats that he might, as he announced today that Dreamforce 2024 will remain right here in SF.

When the annual “largest software conference in the world” Dreamforce brought its business travelers, custom fingernails, and obligatory Matthew McConaughey appearance to town this past September, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff made a fuss that he might pull the conference out of SF over homelessness and drug use in the city. That complaint apparently did the trick, as City Hall ramped up the cleanups and cop presence around the Moscone Center for the conference, and Dreamforce 2023 went largely without incident (save for one visiting doctor who suffered minor injuries in an assault, though says he’s coming back).

And now Dreamforce is coming back too. KRON4 reports that Benioff announced Dreamforce is returning to SF in 2024, making the announcement in a Tuesday morning tweet.

“Thrilled to share the news that Dreamforce, the worlds largest enterprise tech conference, will be returning to San Francisco, the stunning city by the bay–and now the AI capital of the world in 2024!” Benioff posted. “In partnership with Mayor London Breed and our beloved city, Dreamforce 2023 set new standards with outstanding safety measures, cleanliness and hospitality for our 40,000 visiting trailblazers.”

Reading between the lines, those “new standards” of “safety measures, cleanliness and hospitality” can be seen as Benioff kissing his bicep that he successfully goaded the city into putting more police and public safety resources into his big annual to-do.

And draw your own conclusions on how Benioff told CNBC in a text message, “We signed an extensive agreement with the city that outlined the key pieces we knew we needed!”

Meanwhile, Mayor Breed can claim she "saved" Dreamforce in SF, as she is perhaps coordinating her communications and messaging with Benioff here.

Consider that Breed’s own Tuesday announcement (using the same picture, and posted one minute after Benioff's post) gives “Thanks to @Benioff” for the announced return to SF.

Will Benioff makes the same veiled threat to leave SF every year going forward, to ensure the conference gets additional city resources to his liking?

Either way, Dreamforce 2024 is officially scheduled for September 17-19, 2024.
