- Singer Tony Bennett, of course known for “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” has died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was 96. Bennett’s career spanned more than 70 years, and his statue outside the Fairmont Hotel is already gathering flowers and memoria. [NY Times]

- Another heat wave is on the way this weekend, and temperatures could hit 100 degrees in Fairfield, Vacaville, and Concord. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for inland areas lasting from 11 a.m. Friday through 11 p.m. Saturday night. [Chronicle]
- Pranksters altered the signs of the Valencia Street center bike lanes to express their displeasure with the whole layout. The signs were up Thursday with messages like “We regret this bike lane” and “Uh, good luck turning right,” but as of Thursday night, the altered signs had been removed. [Mission Local]
- If you’re traveling in the East Bay this weekend, be aware that Caltrans is closing a three-mile stretch just south of the Carquinez Bridge, and you’ll have to detour on State Route 4. The closure runs from 9 p.m. Friday night until about 4 a.m. Monday morning, and they’re going to close it again the weekends of August 4 and August 18. [SFGate]
