Put your taco-eating pants on: The new tiny outpost of Tacolicious at 685 Market Street will be having its grand opening on Thursday, October 31.
As we learned in August, the new location — which is just 425 square feet, in the base of the Monadnock Building between Third Street and New Montgomery — is focused on tacos made with hearty braised meats. In Mexico City, these are called tacos de guisados, and co-owner Sara Deseran told Eater that they're taking inspiration from a couple of CDMX taquerias, Tacos Gus and Tacos Hola.
It's a counter-service operation, and as Eater reports today, they'll be dishing up hearty tacos for $3.75 apiece. A three-taco special with a drink will run you $14.
There are six options on the opening menu: chicken tinga, guajillo beef, lamb birria, pork chile verde, and two vegan options — butternut squash with shaved Brussels sprouts, and "beans 'n' greens" with Swiss chard and Rancho Gordo yellow-eyed beans.
The Tacolicious Facebook page announced the new addition of chicken tinga to the regular menu earlier this month, saying it's "a delicious, smoky, juicy, kinda spicy chicken tinga, topped with cooling crema and a shower of shredded lettuce." The chicken tinga replaces the "shot and a beer" chicken which contained gluten — and thus the whole taco menu is now gluten-free.
The original Tacolicious debuted in the Marina in 2010, soon followed in 2011 with the ever-popular Valencia Street location. Tacolicious Chico marks the company's sixth location in the Bay Area, and fourth in SF proper.
