- Andrea Varriale, the partner of the Italian police officer who was fatally stabbed in Rome in July, allegedly by a Bay Area teenager, is under investigation for not carrying his service weapon. It has come to light that neither Varriale nor the victim, Cerciello Rega, were armed on the day of the conflict. [SFGate]
- Plumes of steam that looked like smoke coming out of the top of Salesforce Tower this morning caused some alarm... since it is September 11th. It was the result of condensation from the building's startup systems. Nothing to see here, folks. [SFGate]

- Firefighters across San Francisco are holding ceremonies at their stations this morning to commemorate their colleagues in New York who lost their lives 18 years ago on September 11th. [ABC 7]
