Following on Juanita's series of hotel happy hours at the Starlight Room at the Sir Francis Drake down the block several years back, and following on her successful run of a dinner and brunch pop-up at nearby Jones last year, she's returning to the 'hood to host a happy hour/game night. The happy hour features performances, music, games, and drink specials — all in the deliberately rock-and-roll-themed space in the lower rear part of this Viceroy property where Wolfgang Puck's Postrio once lived.
Juanita tells SFist she's had a working relationship with the Hotel Zeppelin for a few years, and that both Dulce and Mutha will be performing. "I love that they're both involved," she says. And, she explains, game-wise, there'll be Connect Four, pool, a full-size bingo board, other board games, along with the arcade games installed in the space like Skee-ball, Quick-shot basketball, and shuffleboard.
Pal Mutha Chucka was featured in April along with several other local legends in a photo spread for Vogue — which also featured a photo of her wall of wigs. In it she described getting her rent-controlled apartment in the Mission in the early 1990s. "All the baby queens and club kids have been through here” she sid. “Half the kids you see performing [in SF] are wearing something I gave them!" She also talked about SF's unique brand of political-theater drag, of which she's been a model practitioner. "I would get naked on stage just to encourage other fat people to do it," she told Vogue. "And I was decapitating Trump and pissing on him as soon as all that happened."
Says Mutha, regarding the game night: "We'll show you how to make an hour HAPPY!"
Gayme Night runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Peace Lounge — through the front lobby and down the stairs — at the Hotel Zeppelin, 545 Post Street.
