- It's going to be another hot one. The heat wave remains for at least another day, with 100-degree temperatures inland and a high of 92 at the Bay. [ABC 7]

- The heatwave came with a pair of Northern California wildfires on Sunday. In San Jose and Morgan Hill the 210-acre Malech Fire is 85 percent contained, and in Yolo County the 2,200-acre Sand Fire is 30 percent contained. [CBS SF / SFGate]
- A high-speed chase Sunday involving San Jose police ended with one person dead and one critically injured who were not involved in the chase. A BMW that was fleeing police at up to 120 mph plowed into a minivan killing the driver and severely injuring a passenger. The BMW driver, who apparently admitted to using meth, is in custody. - Tensions remain in UC Berkeley's co-op community, where low-income students are supposed to have priority because the housing is more affordable. The hippie culture in some of these houses has drawn more affluent students who are their for the alternative, community-focused set-up. [Chronicle]
- Despite the intense heat, hundreds came out for the Livermore Rodeo on Sunday. [CBS SF]
- Pebble Beach is celebrating its centennial and hosting the U.S. Open starting on Thursday. [Chronicle]
- David "Big Papi" Ortiz, the retired Red Sox player, was shot in the back in a bar in the Dominican Republic on Sunday night. [ABC 7]
