It's been almost exactly six years since pizza man Casey Crynes launched the city's first mobile pizza operation out of a food truck, Casey's Pizza, having grown out of a sidewalk pizza oven situation involving a souped up Weber grill. Now Crynes can officially call himself a restaurant owner as Casey's becomes a brick-and-mortar pizza spot in Mission Bay, at 1170 4th Street. Inside Scoop broke the news about the spot about a year ago, and now Tablehopper tells us that Casey's will be making its soft-opening debut tomorrow night, Thursday.
The menu, which on the truck typically featured three pizzas, now expands to eight, and Tablehopper reports that Crynes has himself a new brick-lined double-deck Marsal & Sons pizza oven. The menu will include the classic margherita, pepperoni, bacon-kale, arugula, rapini, hot bianca, and funghi pies, as well as a brunch pie (with bacon and egg), and rotating specials.
Crynes's truck, launched in September 2011, would soon be imitated by the likes of Del Popolo (albeit with a wood oven), Firetrail, and Mozzeria. Del Popolo and fellow mobile operator Pizza Hacker have beaten Crynes to the brick-and-mortar thing, though, so this has been a long time coming and will no doubt be a welcome addition to amenity-starved Mission Bay.
Soft-opening hours will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with full-operation dinner hours later being Tuesday to Saturday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Lunch will begin later, meaning ultimately the place will be open 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
