Thus far stymied in their investigation, the San Francisco Police Department is today turning to the public in an effort to find two men they say might have information in a May homicide case in San Francisco's Marina District.
It's possible you don't even remember the case, as it was overshadowed by a high-profile Bernal Heights slaying that same news cycle.
At some point on May 20 between 6:15 and 11 a.m., police say, 32-year-old Kelly Freeman was shot as he slept on the steps of a building on the 100 block of Alhambra Street, a short set of blocks that begins just off Fillmore Street and ends at Scott Street.
Unaware of the violence inflicted on Freeman, "the resident of the building called the police to report a man sleeping on his steps" at 11:30 a.m., police say. It was only when officers responded that they realized Freeman was "bleeding from a head wound." He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the SFPD, a surveillance camera captured images of "two persons of interest in this case," both of whom you can see above. Police describe one man as "an adult male with a light complexion, last seen wearing a maroon or purple hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes with white laces, similar to Converse Chuck Taylors."
The second, they say, "also appears to be an adult male with a light complexion, last seen wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, a black jacket with white trim around zippered breast pockets, dark colored pants and what appear to be white and gray 'Air Jordan 13'-style basketball shoes."
If you see these men, police urge you not to approach them. According to the SFPD, "While these subjects are only persons of interest, the public is cautioned to not approach them if seen, due to the violent nature of the crime." Instead, police ask that anyone who recognizes these men to call SFPD's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444. They can also Text a Tip to TIP411, just remember to begin the text message with SFPD.
