A homeless woman was arrested Monday morning, after witnesses say she tried to kidnap a child in San Francisco's Ferry Building.
The confrontation began "at 9:36 a.m. — at the height of the morning rush hour as commuters were streaming through the building from their ferries," CBS 5 reports. According to ABC 7, a tourist from Missouri was in line at the Acme Bread Company with a three-year-old boy when she was approached by a woman in he mid-30s that witnesses say appeared to be homeless.
After exchanging a few words with the visitor and child, the woman allegedly attempted to grab the kid. NBC Bay Area reports that "A struggle between the mother and the woman ensued before bystanders jumped in and held down the woman until officers arrived."
Police say that neither the tourist nor the child were injured in the altercation.
According to ABC 7, they did not know their attacker,and police are investigating any possible motive into the kidnapping, as well as the suspect's mental state and well-being.
