Show's over at Showdown, the popular dive bar and DJ spot on 6th Street just off Market, Hoodline reports. In eight years of business, Showdown built a reputation for its steady stream of event nights as much as its cheap drinks — the "spicy beer," a particularly piquant Michelada by another name, has been a favorite. The bar closes on May 27: Its lease was up, and owner Johnny Venetti elected not to renew it, Hoodline writes.
"The bar is almost completely event-driven, meaning people that go there are mostly going there for what is happening on that given night," Venetti explained to Hoodline last year. Indeed, those events, such as "all-you-can-eat spaghetti westerns, stand-up comedy on Tuesdays, live hip-hop showcases on Fridays, live rock on Saturdays," will continue through the end of the month.
What's next for the historic saloon space, which dates to 1935 and has seen many events itself, isn't yet clear. Stay tuned.
