Her sister Beyonce headlines venues like Levi's Stadium, but Solange is apparently more at home in a museum setting.
A year ago in April, SFMOMA threw open its doors to show off the results of a $610 million capital campaign and a three year closure for a massive expansion that left the museum three times larger than before. To mark that anniversary — and to keep the capital flowing — MOMA has quite the fundraiser planned for April 26. The Birthday Bash, as they're calling the event, will even bring Solange to the table, an artist whose most recent album A Seat at the Table earned her a Grammy for Best R&B Performance ("Cranes in the Sky").
The festivities are three-part, and the first two are dinner options. There's the Surprise Birthday Bash starting at 6:30 on the seventh floor, which will set you back $1,200 for features like "unique art experiences" like a special mural by artists Clare Rojas and Barry McGee and performances by Helado Negro and Les Twins. Booze will be flowing and bites will be going around.
At the same time there's also the Birthday Supper on the fifth floor rooftop sculpture garden. That features a performance by Lil Buck, but it's already at capacity.
Those crowds and more then converge for the Late-Night Bash ($200-$350), which is the main event, starting at 9 p.m. Art patrons will roam the museum, taking it all in along with beats from DJ SOSUPERSAM before Solange — excuse me, Grammy Award-winning artist Solange — takes the stage.
It's time to start asking your fairy godmothers/sugar daddies for tickets to this one — and don't forget to wish for a ball gown or otherwise glam outfit that meets the dress code: "bold... monochromatic attire."
