You had your reprieve, maybe you did a little early weeding in the garden or did some running around the Panhandle, and now the rain is headed back our way. The first storm of February arrives tonight, likely gaining momentum after 9 p.m., and the Chronicle is saying it the system will dump 1.5 inches of rain in San Francisco through Friday.
The heaviest rain, according to Weather Underground, looks like it will hit the city around 3 a.m. Thursday, with another wave hitting between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Friday. Things then calm down by Saturday morning, with partial clouds predicted all day and a high of 58 degrees. Then Sunday afternoon a new, weaker system moves in with more rain predicted into Monday.
This is going to mean more fresh powder on top of the heaps of snow they still have up in Tahoe from the last series of storms. One to three inches are predicted Thursday morning and afternoon in the Tahoe City area, with more at higher elevations, and then lake level areas are expected to see upwards of another foot of snow through Friday, which will make for some excellent skiing over the weekend but not great driving, especially on Friday.
But back to tonight, the storm comes with gusting winds that are said to approach 50 miles per hour along coastal hills. And wind means the likelihood of more downed trees and blocked roads, just as parts of Sonoma and Santa Cruz Counties are still cleaning up from the last round.
Major flooding, however, is not predicted with this storm.
