Another collision occurred Friday night in the Castro's most dangerous and most confusing intersection at Market, Noe, and 16th Street. And a separate hit-and-run collision happened earlier in the week between a Mini Cooper and a bicyclist in the Mission that is under investigation. In both cases, victims on two wheels sustained serious injuries.
As Hoodline reports, a collision happened around 5 p.m. last night between a motorcycle and a grey Volkswagen. The Volkswagen was apparently traveling westbound on Market Street and was making a left turn onto Noe Street when the motorcyclist, traveling eastbound, struck the car. The condition of the motorcyclist is unknown, but the driver of the Volkswagen was cooperating with police at the scene.
The six-way intersection has been the site of multiple collisions and near misses in recent years, moreso as traffic in the neighborhood has increased and design changes to the intersection as well as a left-turning F-Market have made things even more confusing and dangerous for those who don't know how to navigate it, and especially for pedestrians in six different crosswalks.
On Tuesday night, a separate collision with a cyclist happened on Potrero Avenue near 22nd Street, as ABC 7 reports, and in that case, the driver, behind the wheel of a Mini Cooper, fled the scene. This happened around 10:15 p.m., and the injured cyclist, Dana Fernie, was assisted by four good Samaritans who saw her lying on the road. She sustained a serious head injury and she tells the station, "It's very rare that people stop to help other people. And i'm just very grateful that they stopped and helped me."
Mission Local reports that this was a dark blue, late model Mini Cooper, and should now be missing a side mirror. The driver remains at large.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information about the driver of the Mini Cooper is asked to contact the SFPD anonymously at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the text with SFPD.
