In what sounds like a scene out of a horror movie, a London-bound British Airways jet flying out of San Francisco was forced to make an emergency landing yesterday after the entire 25-person crew — including the three pilots — became suddenly and mysteriously ill. The Chronicle reports that the plane was diverted to Vancouver, where, thankfully, the pilots landed it safely.
The flight departed SFO yesterday at 7:15 p.m. There were 425 passengers aboard.
“The cabin crew were checked as a precaution at local hospitals before being discharged,” a British Airways spokesperson told the paper. None of the passengers were ill, and at present there are no reports as to what caused the sickness (or what the specific symptoms were) — CNN reports the entire situation is under investigation.
Interestingly, this is not the first such incident to occur on a London-bound plane flying out of California. In January of this year The New York Times reported on a similar case. In that instance, an American Airlines flight leaving LA had to make an emergency landing after both crew and passengers became mysteriously and suddenly ill.
