Boo, the 150-year-old taxidermy caribou head that presided over the Riptide and was reportedly destroyed (along with many other decorative artifacts) by the fire that closed the bar last summer, appears to be back, or more likely replaced. So, it seems, is much of the Outer Sunset bar, which some would classify, at just a block away from Ocean Beach, as not "Outer Sunset" but instead "Inner Pacific."

Tablehopper spotted a Facebook post indicating that the Riptide came roaring back to life at 3639 Taraval. The soft opening was unannounced, and the bar has yet to release a date for a formal opening or regular hours.

The Riptide, a warm, convivial meeting spot, was the beneficiary of tremendous goodwill following the destructive fire. A very successful gofundme.com campaign and a good deal of determination appear to have made the return possible, which was previously slated for late spring.
