A Pokemon Go player attempting to catch 'em all in Chinatown found herself in a much less pleasant battle, when a duo of thieves took advantage of her distraction to rip her phone from her grasp.
The player, a 27-year-old woman, was attempting to track down the elusive imaginary beasts on Grant Avenue near Pine Street, according to the San Francisco Police Department. At 6:04 p.m., two men aged somewhere between 18-22 ran up to the Pokemon player, grabbed the phone from her hands, and fled on foot, police say.
According to the SFPD, the woman sustained unspecified minor injuries in the mugging, but declined medical attention.
As you might recall, earlier this month SFPD issued some safety guidelines for Pokemon Go players following a mugging of two SF teens as they played the game. That safety advice includes a warning to "Know your surroundings and pay attention to where you are going/who is around you." Wise advice for everyone, game player or not!
While the suspects in San Francisco's first Pokemon Go mugging were arrested, the ruffians from Friday's heist remain at large. If you know anything about the case, SFPD asks that you call their Anonymous Tip Line at 415-575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the beginning of the message.
