Remaining Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was in the Bay Area today, and while in town he did what anyone in his shoes would do: The 74-year-old Socialist Democrat held an impromptu rally in Oakland before swinging by Sightglass Coffee in SoMa for, presumably, some pour-over. According to The Mercury News, Sanders's visit to his College Avenue campaign storefront was unannounced, and Secret Service shut down the street when he rolled up.
"We believe in you," the paper reports one supporter as shouting, before general cries of "Bernie! Bernie!" took over. Apparently that exchange left the tireless campaigner feeling a bit tired, as it was then that he made his way to Sightglass. His visit to the popular shop was evidenced by the numerous surprised coffee shop goers frantically posting to Twitter, as well as Sightglass itself (which posted the above picture of Sanders chilling with the staff).

That time Bernie Sanders walked into Sightglass. Not the beginning of a joke. Bet he goes with the pour over. pic.twitter.com/RjzSHTcMTL

And then came the inevitable jokes.
Since @BernieSanders went to @Sightglass today it's good to know where the candidates stand on coffee. pic.twitter.com/WP5UtjC5cO

Oh god, Bernie Sanders went to Sightglass Coffee? Please redistribute that caffeine.

No word yet on whether he or his staff read over SFist's list of best SF coffee shops before stopping by.
