The wait is over, all ye hungry New York expats. The Halal Guys' promised arrival in San Francisco is happening, and starting this week they're offering a sneak preview of their food via Caviar delivery. And! As Inside Scoop tells us, you can browse the menu and begin pre-orders today, with actual delivery starting Tuesday, April 12. The Guys will then continue delivery from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday until they get their shop open at 336 O'Farrell Street and the date on that is still TBA.
Plus as we noted before, they're looking to franchise out across the entire Bay Area in a big way, with potential for 30 franchisees. First to open will be locations in Berkeley (2126 Center Street) and San Jose (at The Plant, 81 Curtner Avenue).
As many New Yorkers will tell you if you don't know about The Halal Guys, they specialize in gyros and falafel, good examples of which are notoriously hard to come by around the Bay. They started out as well respected street vendors, with a single cart at 53rd and 6th Avenue near MoMA, and became what the NY Post called "perhaps the city's most famous open-air food destination." 25 years after starting the business, Egyptian-born owner Mohamed Abouelenein and co-founders Abdelbaset Elsayed and Ahmed Elsaka are now in expansion mode, with locations having opened in Chicago and Costa Mesa, California in the last year. They only opened their first brick-and-mortar locations in New York in 2014, to instant success they are the #3 most-Yelped about business in the United States.
And just so you know, a chicken platter with two packets of their famous white sauce is going to run you $11.99 on Caviar, with extra packets of sauce for $0.99 each and you may want to throw at least one into your cart.
