Let's face it, some people are just straight up a**holes. And while we frequently apply that label to thieves in general, one particular San Jose thief caught on tape really seems to merit a response of unbridled disparagement. Home surveillance video shows a woman stealing a package off a front stoop last Friday, and then joyfully skipping away with her ill-gotten goods.

What pushes this totally over the edge, however, is that the package pilferer grabbed the birthday present of a 4-year-old girl — thus teaching the child about the sad, cruel nature of life at an all together too young age.

Julian Nino, a neighbor, told CBS 5 that the entire block is shocked at the crime.

"Stay away from our neighborhood," Nino said in a message of warning to the skipping scumbag. "Just don't come back here."

People swiping packages off of front door steps is not a new thing, and the crime is especially common around Christmas time. While the prevalence of home-security cameras hasn't appeared to deter criminals looking for an easy score, at least one Vallejo man decided to fight back — leaving a decoy package on his porch filled with dog excrement.

Hats off to you, sir.

As to the woman depicted in the video? Nino is hoping the quality of the film will allow police to identify her.

"Hopefully that will teach her a lesson," he mused.
