Wednesday was super hot, with record-breaking temperatures across the Bay Area, and the hottest weather in San Francisco in over five years, according to the National Weather Service (and my armpits).
Yesterday's high temperatures of 95 in #SF is the warmest reading there in over 5 years! (98 8/24/10). #cawx (HT to Christopher Burt)

In an attempt to cool down yesterday, I went to China Beach, which was a stupid idea because a) packs of poorly-supervised kids made me super anxious by playing in the dangerous surf and b) going out in the sun was even hotter than sitting in my stuffy apartment. The scene from my towel:
Thank god the staffers of the SF Zoo are smarter than I am! As opposed to cooling their animals off by lying them on a towel under the punishing sun (my not-so-brilliant plan), they made an ice bath for their otters, and hit their ostriches with the hose, as you can see in the video below.
Look out you guys, that ostrich looks PISSED.
It's not just humans looking to beat the heat! Here's how the @sfzoo kept animals cool today: http://t.co/0dQ8zSWBaQ pic.twitter.com/ychVhTGaRA
