A 35-year-old man and a male relative were arrested Tuesday in Richmond's Iron Triangle neighborhood on suspicion of human trafficking and a host of other offenses after a woman was rescued from the man's residence claiming to have to been held captive there for about a year. The Richmond Standard broke the story and details remain sparse, but the woman claims she was lured here by the suspect via Facebook correspondence with promises of a job and a better life, according to police. And, "Once here, she was sexually and physically abused on a daily basis" and forced to live in a closet.
It sounds as though she managed to get herself freed by contacting Homeland Security who then reached out to detectives at the West Contra Costa Family Justice Center. Richmond police and federal agents then swarmed the house on Tuesday, arresting the subject and his relative, who have not yet been identified. The address of the residence has not been identified either.
According to police there was evidence in the home to confirm the woman's story of being kidnapped and abused.
