The former location of Abbot's Cellar has lain dormant since the owners, Monk's Kettle, shut down their high-end spinoff in January, gesturing to the minimum wage hike.

But betting on the viability of their own suds, which are already popular with their Reno home base, Brasserie St. James has applied to lease the Valencia Street location known for its heavy foot traffic. Capp Street Crap caught the sign posted to the door, heralding the tap takeover — and it makes sense given that Abbot's Cellar did all the work for them installing the taps, and those beer bottle-shaped sinks.

Last year Brasserie St. James was named the best mid-size brewpub and brewers in America at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival. Their "old world style" ales and lagers — with hybrid styles like the Ardenne to India Belgian IPA — are renowned in Nevada and stack up rather nicely on Beer Advocate.

During its tenure, Abbot's Cellar seemed to test the cultural chasm between wine and beer, "elevating" the latter by serving it with the reverence and food pairings (and at the price point) of the former. But, though they've clearly got love and respect for their brews, Brasserie St. James looks less inclined to subject beer to wine's formalities.

Anyway, we'll see — and taste — soon enough.
