Castro beer-and-arcade-game spot Brewcade, now just seven and a half months old, is closed for two or three days because, according to a statement from the bar, they've got some damages to repair following a small fire Saturday evening. The fire occurred at 7:30 p.m. in the wall adjoining Brewcade and the kitchen of Hecho next door, and owners Shawn Vergara and Tiffny Vergara Chung tell us that a determination from the fire marshall is that the cause was "radiant heat from the Hecho stove inside the kitchen" which subsequently caused wood framing in the wall to ignite.
The owners say they "are glad that no one has been hurt," and add, "We are working with our neighbors at Hecho to make sure that this is an isolated situation."
About 60 patrons had to be evacuated from Brewcade on Saturday, though it sounds like business proceeded as usual for Hecho.
Update: Brewcade reopened quickly, as of Tuesday, and even hosted director Chris Columbus (Home Alone, The Goonies, Harry Potter) last night, who was in town promoting his new arcade-themed movie Pixels.
