The motorcyclist who allegedly mowed down two pedestrians on Market Street last week has been arrested after one of his two alleged victims died of their injuries.
Witnesses say that 26-year-old Burlingame resident Sean McGinnis was speeding up 3rd Street onto Market at 9:10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1. That's when they say he struck one pedestrian who was in the crosswalk area and another who was walking on the sidewalk.
"The motorcyclist just kind of jumps onto the curb," a witness said at the time of the collision.
"He's going like 30-40 mph, jumps on the curb, hits our friend, she falls face forward, and then he comes and he hits the newsstands here and in doing so, he hit someone else."
The first pedestrian was hospitalized with facial injuries and was released shortly thereafter, San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Grace Gatpandan says.
The second victim, 39-year-old Gregory Ihm, died Thursday at San Francisco General Hospital. According to the San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office, his death was a result of the injuries sustained in the collision.
Gatpandan says that following Ihm's death, McGinnis was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs.
Police continue to seek witnesses to the crash, and are eager to speak to anyone with information on the collision. If you saw the incident or know anything about it, please contact the SFPD Anonymous Tip Line at (415) 575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the beginning of the message.
