While we still have some time before the Julia Roberts-starring Batkid feature film pops into gear, a new trailer for Batkid Begins, the locally-shot documentary all about November 15, 2013, the day Miles Scott saved San Francisco dropped today. If it doesn't give you even a little lump in your throat, check yourself for a pulse.
For those of you who somehow missed it, as part of a Make-A-Wish event for then five-year-old Miles, San Francisco was turned into Gotham City for the day to let him live as "real Batman" (minus, of course, all the sad, dark, Miller/Nolanesque parts of the masked man's mythos). Even President Obama played along! As Brock Keeling wrote at the time, "And hearts burst wide open as San Francisco's true, cynicism-free colors were exposed."
After a funding push last summer, Batkid Begins premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival earlier this year to positive reviews. For his part, Miles remains healthy and in remission. Which is great, because who knows when San Francisco might need him again?
Batkid Begins will be released "in select theaters" on June 26, but until then, you can watch the new trailer below.
