We learned in early March that the new concept for the Cafe Des Amis space from Beretta/Starbelly guy Adriano Paganini would be a "Belgian brasserie," and today we get word on the name: Belga (2000 Union Street). This is not to be confused the London-based chain of Belgian restaurants Belgo, which briefly expanded to New York in the 90s, and Paganini explains that "Belga" is also the word for "Belgian" in his native Italian.
They've also hired a chef, and that would be Freedom Rains (really his name), who served as chef de cuisine under Chris Cosentino at the former Incanto. He's also spent part of his career at Boulevard, and served as sous chef at both Flour + Water and RN74.
We still don't have too many menu details, besides mussels and frites (obviously), but per Eater there will a ribeye for two, roast chicken, and wood-fired sausages.
The earlier announcement suggested a May 1 opening, but per Eater the opening is now going to be sometime in May.
