Offices today are at a standstill as the citizens of the Internet learn of a new Google-released game that can be played on Maps. As of this morning, you can turn most sections of street into Pac-Man mazes, and since SF has some great slash weird roads and intersections, why not play a few tough local arenas like the one pictured above? Here's the general SF map, just click a section and then select the Pac-Man feature at the bottom left next to the Earth setting. Or play Lombard Street right here! Coming soon: roundups of the "Top Ten Pac-Man levels in the Bay Area" and "5 Local Ghosts To Eat Right Now."
Kotaku speculates that this is an April Fool's gag come early, and I wouldn't expect it to last forever, so get playing. As the Verge notes, "While developers have created similar hacks before, this version of Google Maps Pac-Man comes directly from Google, and even supports mobile devices. This isn't the first time Google has mixed video games and Maps in time for April Fools' Day, as last year the company let you catch Pokemon using its mapping tool." If a Link to the Past Google Maps game is available next, I'd probably spend days in Hyrule.
