The Balboa Park BART station was closed for over four hours on Sunday after a person reportedly threw themselves in front of an oncoming train.
It was 12:30 p.m. Sunday when, according to BART spokesperson Jim Allison, an "eastbound train hit a person and that person was killed" at the Balboa Park BART station at 401 Geneva Avenue in San Francisco.
At publication time, neither Allison nor the San Francisco Medical Examiner could publicly provide details on the person who was killed, including name, age, or gender.
According to the Chron, the person "apparently jumped in front of" the train.
BART was single-tracking trains through the shuttered station, Allison says, snarling transit across the system,
After an investigation from BART police and the ME's office, the station reopened at 4:49 p.m.
If someone you know exhibits warning signs of suicide: do not leave the person alone; remove any firearms, alcohol, drugs or sharp objects that could be used in a suicide attempt; and call the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) or take the person to an emergency room or seek help from a medical or mental health professional.
