At nearly 150 years old, Sam's Grill reopened to much relief last year after a mysterious three-month closure. At the time, loyal patrons got together as investors to save the institution, whose building was taken over by a new landlord and was in danger of possible closure. That would have been a real loss, as the Belden Place fixture has stood the test of time so well.
Therefore, honoring its history and the new phenomenon known as Throwback Thursday or TBT, we've got word that Sam's is offering prices as they would have been in 1868 for happy hour today. It's sort of absurd, but here's the tweet from food PR guru Michele Mandell.
Today: #TBT happy hour at Sam’s Grill, 4-6pm. Enjoy a second round at 1868 prices. Beer: 50 cents; glass of house wine: $1; Manhattan: $2.

We're not going to check the historical math on those specials, though I'd wager a 50 cent beer or two that 50 cents might have been enough for a pitcher of suds in 1868. Before you ask, this is a hot tip, not an ad, so enjoy it.
