Gotham City SF // A Timelapse Film from Toby Harriman on Vimeo.
As San Francisco produces a prolific number of timelapse/cool videos, perhaps it's time to take a more formal approach to their appreciation. In fact, some in the past have had us calling for a hypothetical festival devoted to them. It's on that note that today we bring you a Christopher Nolan-inspired work, at least in its title and aesthetic. Toby Harriman has been toiling over this neo-noir San Francisco hyperlapse. His work, Gotham clocks in at just 3 minutes and 42 second. Points for concision and clarity of vision. The video has been called "Dark and Gripping" — Iso and The Bold Italic says it "might actually make you well up." It's surely impressive, and includes fireworks. However, there are a few inconsistencies with the camera work — the fireworks seem to disturb the smoothness of the frame —and certain portions of the lapse could have been faster.
Also, just to get totally Jebidiah Atkinson about this, stronger cases have been made for our city as contemporary gothic, frankly. I'm thinking of the excellent work of Fincher's Zodiac, to name one example. But still, Gotham is a definite must-watch.
