If an announcement posted to both Indybay and Facebook is to be believed, your Friday BART commute might be a little trickier than you expected. According to event organizers, a day-long demonstration planned for the platform at the Montgomery BART station will ensure that "there will be no business as usual anywhere or for anyone."
Protesters are warned to "Be on time!" and to "Bring a metal spoon (you'll find out why)."
Event organizers, who are using the hashtags #BARTFriday and #MLKSHUTITDOWN for the action, are demanding that BART officials:
1. Drop charges and ransom against the Black Friday 14
2. Disband the BART police
3. Restitution for the people: Low-income ticket discounts
Citing a "state-sponsored war on Black lives," organizers of Friday's demonstration say that "as long as it remains business as usual to gun down Black women, men and children in the streets of this country, there will be no business as usual anywhere or for anyone. Shut. It. Down."
You can view the event's flier here. As of publication time, over 230 people out of the over 3000 invited said via Facebook that they'd be participating in the event.
