The San Francisco Police Department is investigating its first known homicide of 2015, a shooting near Candlestick Park that claimed the life of a 22-year-old man.

According to SFPD spokesperson Officer Albie Esparza, it's believed that the man was shot at some point on Wednesday at Jamestown Avenue and Harney Way, right at the lip of the Candlestick parking lots.

According to Esparza, the shooting victim was initially taken to Kaiser Permanente’s South San Francisco Medical Center, located at 1200 El Camino Real. From there, he was transported by ambulance to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Esparza says.

Esparza says that the deceased is now being examined by the San Mateo County coroner’s office. Esparza did not offer any explanation for their involvement in the case.

Citing the ongoing nature of the investigation, he was also unable to disclose any other details about the homicide, including the exact time of the shooting, or any suspect information at publication time.

As always, however, anyone with information on this slaying is asked to call the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to “SFPD” at TIP411.
