Two people were injured after a driver ran a red light and struck a cab early Tuesday morning. But the driver's alleged offenses don't end there: after the collision, the driver attempted to flee on foot, a police spokesperson says, but was apprehended.
San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Sergeant Monica MacDonald tells SFist that at 3:30 this morning, the driver of an SUV (which looks, from a CBS5 photo, to have been a white Jeep SUV) drove through a red light without stopping at the intersection of at Fell and Octavia Streets (not Octavia and Oak, as has been reported elsewhere, she said), and struck a taxi cab.
Two victims of the crash were transported to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that are not considered life threatening, MacDonald said. One was someone who had been in the cab, the other was a passenger in the SUV. When asked about media reports that said a passenger of the SUV had fled and was at large, she could not confirm that detail.
MacDonald did say that the driver of the SUV attempted to flee on foot, and was apprehended by SFPD. He remains in custody as of Tuesday morning.
