The body of a man found floating face down in the San Francisco Bay has yet to be identified, officials said Thursday morning.

At about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit was called to an area of the Bay about 1.5 miles east of Oyster Point, Sheriff's Office spokesperson Rebecca Rosenblatt said.

According to Rosenblatt, when they arrived, they discovered the body of a man, clad in a black t-shirt and jeans, floating face down in the water.

According to SF Weekly, "the elements had left the man unrecognizable."

The San Mateo County Coroner's Office is working to identify the deceased subject, Rosenblatt said. According to the Weekly, once identified, if it turns out that the man was tied to an open case in the area, "the relevant agency will pick up the investigation." If he isn't part of any investigation elsewhere, then it'll be up to San Mateo County Sheriff's Office to handle the case.
