Chef Chris Kronner's burger venture, KronnerBurger, which began life as a pop-up at Bruno's in 2012 and has since high-tailed to Oakland, will finally be getting a permanent home this fall, as Inside Scoop reports. He'll be taking over the longtime, now-closed greasy spoon J's Mexican-American Cuisine on Piedmont Avenue at 41st Street, which has much of the kitschy charm of Bruno's, but with more natural light and a bigger kitchen setup for Kronner and his crew to work in.

The news of the takeover of J's was previously broken in the Chronicle, and now Kronner announces his target opening as mid-October. They're currently renovating the space, which became a lunch-counter operation in the decades after its use as a commuter-train depot for the defunct Key Line, which is part of the reason for its cool flatiron shape.

Kronner is putting in a wood grill and open hearth, and he's planning to expand the menu beyond burgers to include dry-aged meats, grilled vegetables, and a raw bar. Also, there will be a full cocktail bar.

Look for Kronner to continue making Thursday and Friday appearances, sans burgers, at Ordinaire Wine Bar in Oakland through the end of the month.
