Open as of yesterday on 16th Street, in the space formerly occupied by Tokyo Go Go, is new cocktail and bar-bite spot, ABV (3174 16th Street). We told you about the project almost a year ago, and after some delays, the place is now open at 2 p.m. daily.

The guys behind it have some pretty serious cocktail cred, but their aim with ABV from the get-go was to eschew all airs of trendiness and try to create a watering hole that was cool, comfortable, and affordable, without any reclaimed wood, Edison bulbs, uniforms, or barrel-aged cocktails. You can check out the resulting space at Eater, and see the mural by Nathaniel Russell take shape in the video above.

The drink menu comes via former Beretta manager Ryan Fitzgerald, Dalva/Dalva Hideout owner Erik Reichborn-Kjennerud, and former Bourbon & Branch guy and all around cocktail guru Todd Smith, who have kept things pretty unpretentious with a selection of highballs and a few more complicated concoctions, organized by spirit. See the full offering via Alcademics. There are things like the High Altitude Highball featuring Hakushu whiskey from Japan, genepy, and soda; and the Mumbai Mule with saffron vodka, ginger beer, and lime.

And, also, there's a food menu with meat and cheese board options, and a dozen or so snacks all priced below $10. Top of my list to try: a pimiento cheeseburger ($9). And everything is meant to be eaten with your hands — no utensils provided.

Hours may be subject to change, but for now: 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily.
