After 16 years of funky comfort food and accolade-stealing tater tots, the Richmond District's Q Restaurant will shut its doors and dispose of the fryer grease for one last time on June 29th.

Q Restaurant, also known for their American take on duck confit and smoked pork, shared the announcement with the neighborhood via a cheery banner above the entrance reading, "Q Restaurant is closing! We're selling out of tater tots on June 29th! Thanks for 16 years San Francisco!"

In a letter to their customers, owners Brinn and Andrew elaborated on the closure of their restaurant, where they first had the deliciously insane idea of pairing tater tots with macaroni and cheese:

It is with a heavy heart that after almost 16 years of great food, delicious wine, wonderful people, fun times, hard work, ups and downs, (and a few Hokey Pokeys thrown into the mix), Q owners Andrew and Brinn have decided it’s time to move on to the next life adventure. After years of disabling back problems, it is time to give Andrew the opportunity to focus on his health. This has been a very difficult and emotional decision and we are so sad to say goodbye, but health takes priority.

But the closure is not a sad one. As the staff goes on, "We are so grateful for the love and tremendous efforts by our amazing staff. We wish everyone the best of luck in whatever path they chose in their future and look forward to lifelong friendships with you."

Aside from landing on SFist's own Best Tater Tots list for the aforementioned mac & cheezy tots, Q Restaurant also got a blessing from human balloon animal Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. At the moment there's no word on what will become of the space at 225 Clement Street.
