Two weeks into the new year and what, we had that pathetic drizzle Tuesday night and that's it? The miseries of January can certainly be made more miserable by grayness and rain, but think about the plants! Think about all the city soot and filth that just sits there and doesn't get washed off of streets or building surfaces. It's gross really.

And if you're too selfish to think about the plants, think about the fact that you will soon (probably) be told to restrict your own water usage, if and when water conservation contingencies get put in place this spring and summer. That will depend on how much rain we get between now and April, but still.

Seriously, I don't think I have ever longed for rain in the winter, ever. But I'm longing for it now because this is just way too weird. And as much as I like there to be a warm, dry spell for my birthday at the end of February, I will sacrifice this year for the good of everyone. Hear that, rain gods?

You may remember that last January was like this too, but eventually some rain came. Though not very much because, as we've mentioned, last year overall was the driest ever recorded in San Francisco. Sure the rest of the country has been suffering in that Polar Vortex and we've all just been smugly looking at our screens and Facebook feeds feeling satisfied with our cozy, temperate, Bay Area lives, but this madness has to end. Enjoy yourself in the park, go on a hike, whatever, but you should all be looking at the sky and visualizing a deluge, with pleasure. (Instead, there's supposed to be a drizzle of like 1/100th of an inch on Saturday.)

Oh, and it's supposed to hit 70 next week. Terrific. Just stop watering your lawn now. Come June you won't be allowed to anyway.
