Not to get all alarmist this early on a Monday morning, but in addition to this delightful and also terrible cold snap we've been having lately, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has already issued its sixth Spare the Air day for the Winter season. Meaning: burning combustible fuel for warmth is currently verboten.

On about one-third of the days since November 25th, the air around the bay area has been saturated with enough particulate matter to cause concern, which is surely a sign of our planet's imminent destruction, or at least some stagnant weather patterns. And the forecast doesn't look too good for tomorrow either.

On the bright side, all this cold weather is making visibility remarkably clear. So maybe you can warm yourself up with a nice hike to your favorite San Francisco vista, even if the air you're breathing is slowly killing you, just like everything else.
