December is rife with charming holiday traditions, but there's a special joy in ones that are singular to San Francisco. Thankfully, one of the city's beloved December traditions is back with tonight's premiere of "The Golden Girls: The Christmas Episodes." For each performance of the show's 12-night run, the city's favorite drag queens will reenact two Christmas episodes from the original Golden Girls television show on stage, milking the familiar sit-com format for laughs and festive, family-friendly good cheer.
The cast is led by drag stars Heklina, Cookie Dough, Matthew Martin and Pollo Del Mar, and the opening few days will feature some special guest stars, too. To kick things off, tonight's opening show is a benefit for AIDS Housing Alliance, and will feature the many talents of guest Donna Sachet. More guest stars for the coming weekend include Fernando Ventura, Greg Sherrell and Sister Roma Roma.
Tickets for the cozy Victoria Theater shows could go fast, so grab yours today if you can name all four original Golden Girls and speculate on which holiday specials will be on the roster this year 'round. Tickets are $30 each, with $15 reserving you a seat, and another $15 due at the door.
