We get our fair share of nightmarish public transportation-related crimes around here, but this one may take the cake. Yesterday evening, a sleeping passenger was actually set on fire aboard an AC Transit bus in Oakland.

A 16-year-old male is accused of intentionally starting the fire, which left the male 18-year-old victim hospitalized with second- and third-degree burns. The bus' onboard security cameras caught the crime on tape, and police got help in identifying the suspect from Oakland Unified School District security.

The incident occurred on board an AC Transit Line 57 bus near the intersection of MacArthur Boulevard and Ardley Avenue. Over a dozen passengers were present, but so far there's no clear motive for the crime.

Stay safe out there, transit passengers, BART workers, cyclists, pedestrians, drivers and pretty much anyone who leaves the house.
