A little before 7 p.m. Thursday night, an East Palo Alto couple, Kamal Kaur and Balbir Singh, were walking their dog in Menlo Park when they were struck and killed by a drunk driver.

"A car driving east behind them struck them from behind, launching them in the air and onto the street," reports KTVU. "The car then swerved across the center divider, hit another car, and slammed into a tree."

Authorities arrived to find the couple dead and their dog suffering several injuries.

The suspect has been identified as identified as Marjorie Reitzell, 54, of Redwood City, who was taken to Stanford Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Three other people were in Reitzell's car but walked away unscathed. The suspect was later arrested at the hospital.

The deceased couple leave behind three children: two teenage daughters and one teenage son. A family relative went on to tell KTVU, "They were hard-working people ... I feel very badly for the family. I’m seeing those little kids - all under 18. I’ve got kids of my own. I just feel badly for the family…For the children."
