The 1906 earthquake changed a lot of things in San Francisco, if by "a lot of things" you mean much of the city was reduced to gravel and gutted by fire. But here's one bright point to the year that was: an intrepid photographer named Frederick Ives took the first known photos of the city's wreckage and nascent reconstruction in dazzling (for 1906) technicolor.
