Everyone's about the beer these days -- from the glut of new beer gardens in the East Bay to the beer-centric food menus at places like Bar Tartine and Abbot's Cellar. And now a slightly bougier version of City Beer Store has just made its debut on mid-Market, at the foot of Polk Street, and it's called The Beer Hall. It's more of a smallish bar than a beer hall, but it takes its name from the couple who own it, Andrew and Jennifer Hall. As Eater reports, they hired architect Gi Poletti to make the space feel cool, and with the help of some friends and artist Leigh Ellison, they collected and bedazzled (with resin and fabric) 14,000 bottle caps in order to create a wall mosaic.

The tap selection is a mostly California affair, with likely suspects Stone and Speakeasy, as well as some further afield like Ommegang, and a couple of new nanobrewers like Armstrong and Pine Street. Plus, like City Beer, there's a big bottle selection that can be drunk in or out of the bar.

And there will be some food eventually, like cheese and charcuterie, but for now, no.

They've just opened and the hours are 6 to 10 p.m., but regular hours will be 3 to 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday. See some more photos here.
