Just after 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, near the intersection of Sixth and Tehama Streets in SoMa, reports started coming in about an explosion on a FedEx delivery truck. Police immediately shut down traffic in the area, and no one was injured by the explosion, which fire officials initially thought was caused by a package of fireworks being shipped out.

After a brief investigation by SFPD, every furiously tweeting local news outlet and at least one helicopter, the explosion was determined to be caused by some punk with a firecracker.

No arrests have been made or citations issued. Streets in the neighborhood reopened around 3:15 p.m., but there may still be a few lingering traffic issues. Carry on, folks, nothing to see here.
Update: The Chronicle's Vivian Ho reports this is actually the second instance of firecracker abuse this week. It seems Tehama Street has a rogue (probably bored) firecracker bandit with possible connections to the Nevada fireworks cartels:
...Neighbors say a similar blast happened Monday afternoon as well, with smoke and a bewildered driver (2/2)
